David Lear, Executive Director Corporate Sustainability
Dell Inc.

David Lear serves as the Executive Director of Dell’s sustainability programs. In this role, he leads Sustainability programs to create long-term stakeholder value and opportunities by integrating economic, social and environmental responsibility into Dell’s core business strategies. David joined Dell in 2006 as Director of Product Development.  Prior to joining Dell, David served in various roles in design and manufacturing in the IT and Test & Measurement industry.  David holds a BS in Chemistry and Biology from Missouri State University, and a Masters in Finance from the University of Indianapolis.

Doug Lewin, Executive Director
South Central Partnership for Energy Efficiency as a Resource (SPEER)

Doug Lewin was designated SPEER's Executive Director in 2011. Doug has worked for Good Company Associates, a clean energy business development consulting firm, for over two years and spent much of his time coordinating clean energy job training for Green Corridor Collaborative.  Doug previously served as Legislative Director to Texas State Representative Lon Burnam and then Senator Rodney Ellis.  Doug helped pass Texas’ sales tax holiday on energy efficient products and statewide green jobs legislation. Doug holds his bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Texas-Austin.

Moderator: John Doggett
John Doggett teaches international entrepreneurship, global competition, sustainability and energy at McCombs. Doggett received his BA from Claremont Men's College, his JD from Yale Law School and his MBA from Harvard Business School.

                                                                              
Kirsten Bourne, Marketing Director
The Bi-Rite Family of Businesses

 Kirsten Bourne is the marketing director for the Bi-Rite Family of Businesses in San Francisco, which includes Bi-Rite Market, Creamery, Catering, Farms, and non-profit 18 Reasons. Prior to joining Bi-Rite she worked as a buyer for Williams-Sonoma and in advertising as an account manager at Grey Worldwide. She wouldn’t be where she is now without having worked in the trenches in restaurants, and wouldn’t appreciate the work that goes into producing food if she hadn’t gotten her hands dirty farming in northern California. She was raised in Connecticut and received her BS from Stanford.
                         
Shirene Garcia, Development Coordinator
Urban Roots
A native born Austinite, Shirene earned her Bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin after transferring from Antioch College, where she studied a self-designed major of Cultural Environmentalism (a combination of anthropology, environmental studies, and education). Previously, Shirene has worked with youth in a variety of settings, including several local non-profit agencies and as a Montessori teacher. She also has experience working on small organic farms in Indiana and Texas. Shirene has worked in various capacities at Urban Roots since 2007 and is currently the Development Coordinator.


Brenton Johnson, Owner
Johnson’s Backyard Garden
Brenton Johnson is the farmer and owner of Johnson’s Backyard Garden. Brenton graduated in 1997 from Auburn University in Agricultural Engineering.  Prior to farming, he worked for nearly 10 years in the Federal Government with the Bureau Reclamation managing the Agencies Water Conservation Field Service Program.

Elizabeth Winslow, Co-Founder
Farmhouse Delivery
Elizabeth Winslow is a professional chef and former restaurateur, a food writer, and an advocate for local food systems. She is also an enthusiastic purveyor of information about eating well and enjoying food – via her Farmhouse Delivery cooking classes, writings in Edible Austin magazine, regular Farmhouse Table blog, and her Twitter and Facebook posts.

Marilee McInnis, Senior Manager of Southwest Citizenship
Southwest Airlines
Marilee McInnis is a spokesperson for Southwest Airlines, the nation’s largest airline in terms of passengers carried.  In addition to her reputation management duties, Marilee directs the airline’s Green initiatives, leads the “Green Team.” helps the Company put a Green filter on business decisions and fosters sustainability and corporate citizenship for the Company.  Marilee developed and spearheads the Company’s annual integrated reporting effort that make Southwest one of only a handful of U.S. companies publishing an integrated report.  Marilee was named by Fortune magazine as one of eight rising green stars at the world’s most admired companies.

Roman Smith, Director of Public Affairs, Sustainability and Philanthropy
AT&T
Roman has the responsibility of moving forward corporate sustainability efforts that target areas where the needs of AT&T intersect with the needs of communities. He has the responsibility of integrating sustainable business practices throughout the company’s operations; contributing to initiative development and execution; developing and communicating AT&T’s positions; and managing stakeholder relationships.  His current priorities include accessibility and aging, consumer-focused engagement/products/services, diversity, supply chain, e-waste, community engagement, and the overall environmental and social enablement story around the opportunity for information and communications technologies (ICT).

Social Entrepreneur Panel:

Moderator: Dan Scellan, MBA 2013
 Daniel Scellen is President of the Entrepreneur Society of McCombs. A first year MBA student studying Entrepreneurship and CleanTech, he came back to school to focus on sustainability. Before business school, he launched new digital media products at one of the oldest double-bottom-line businesses: The Associated Press. Scellen holds a BS in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University's College of Engineering.


                       
Erine Gray, Founder
Erine is the founder of www.auntbertha.com, a new software company and certified B Corp that focuses on organizing the country’s human service information so people can find and apply for human services in seconds.  Prior to starting Aunt Bertha, he was responsible for delivering more than 40 software and operational improvement projects that saved the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) more than $5 million dollars per year in operating expenses. 

Jeff Paine, Director
Break it Down
Jeff Paine is co-founder and owner of Break it Down, LLC, a full-service recycling and composting business located in Austin, Texas. Before starting Break it Down, Jeff was a professional graduate student and he holds a MS in Chemical Engineering from UT-Austin, a MS in Earth & Planetary Sciences from UC-Berkeley, and a BA in Physics from Carleton College. He enjoys the challenges and opportunities related to being an entrepreneur.

Ann Starr, Director of Education
Greenlights for Nonprofit Success
Ann Starr has served Greenlights for Nonprofit Success since 2004, as a member of the educational staff until 2005 and later as a workshop presenter, volunteer and member of the Development Committee. She rejoined the Greenlights staff in 2009 to lead the organization's educational programs and to serve as a member of the consulting team, specializing in fundraising and organizational assessments. Ann is the Chair of the SIMS Foundation Board of Directors. She holds a bachelor's degree in education from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio and a Master of Arts in Human Services from St. Edward's University.

Karinne Thornblom, Build-Out Manager/Assistant Brewer/Cellarwoman
Black Star Co-Op Pub and Brewery
Karinne joined Black Star in August of 2009. The former Clementine Coffee Bar owner brought her constructing, permitting, and business experience to serving as the Co-op’s build-out manager. She also oversaw the building’s LEED certification process and plans to celebrate the building’s “Silver” rating achievement this Spring. She’s passionate about the Co-op being an exemplary model of the Cooperative business structure and looks forward to seeing the development of more around Austin. Karinne currently works within the brewery, as the assistant brewer, while also serving as the Board Staff Liaison.
